6th Annual Snow Jam-2014

Snow Jam 2014:

Snow Jam is an annual event put on by the County Line Offroaders at the Elbe Hills ORV park in Elbe Washington.

In its 6th year the event brings Jeepers and four wheelers from all over the area for a day trail running, poker, and family outdoor fun.  As members of the Pacific NW 4WD Association they are committed to preserving the outdoors and encouraging people to grab their families and get outside.

Snow Jam is a family friendly event with activities for all ages, including a wonderful scavenger hunt for the younger set.  This year's scavenger hunt was put together by Ashley who is an avid participant in the Future Four Wheelers program with the PNW4WDA.  While she may look like a little girl, this young lady put together a heck of a great game, and is already a winning Jeep racer on the Jeep racing circuit.  She is a perfect example of the family that plays together stays together!

While the event is called "Snow Jam", every year it is anyone's guess what the conditions are going to be like.  Last year, there was still a couple of feet of snow on the ground, and the trail was definitely a more advanced course, with many a Jeeper having to be winched over spots.

This year there was no snow.  Actually we did find one small patch about 3 ft by 5ft, under a shaded tree, but mud was definitely the order of the day.  The weather was beautiful, and while it was cold enough that the mud was mostly frozen, making the trail a little easier, and making it a perfect day for many of the first timers and those just getting to know what their Jeep can do.

We saw lots of new people this year, which is always exciting, and again, this was the perfect year to get out and give it a try.

With approximately 139 registered rigs taking the trail for the poker run, and with the beautiful weather, the hills were alive with the sound of Jeep Music.

The poker run starts at Scott Turner Road and ends up at the Elbe Hills ORV park where the Chili is hot, the dogs are cooked, and the cheese is melted and ready.  There is just something about a chili dog at the end of a cold run, that really hits the spot.

The event had all the ear marks of a great day, with many trying their hand at the teeter totter.  The teeter totter is a test of driver's skill, trying to find the perfect balance.  There are many who approach it with great announcements such as "this WILL be my year".  This year, only 1 person found the sweet spot for about 3 seconds, but many tried, and we look forward to next year, perhaps next year will be their year.

If you have a Jeep, 4x4 or AWD vehicle, and love to get on the back trails, or think it is something you would like to do, check out the Pacific NW 4WD Association at PNW4WDA.org.  Membership to the association is nominal, and the benefits far outweigh the minimum expense.  With regular newspapers, postings, newsletters, and tons of informative information about wildlife and outdoor conservation, they have something for everyone.  Probably one of the biggest benefits is all of the great information about how to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, safely and gently.

If you couldn't make it out this year, we hope to see you next year.  Maybe, just maybe we will have snow for Snow Jam.  While the name of the event is not going to change, each year it is dubbed something different based on the actual weather the day of the event.  This year was "Mud Jam".  Some fun suggestions from years passed:  "Rain Jam", "Gravel Jam" and "Everybody Got Stuck Jam".

The Bruce Titus Olympia Jeep store is honored to be associated with these great organizations, and are proud sponsors of events like these.
